About Us

The Production Institute was founded and launched by a team of working professionals focusing on teaching real world production skills in an authentic production environment. Each has teaching and/or management experience at a variety of colleges and universities. Our goal: To share our knowledge and offer instruction and mentoring that is second to none anywhere in the world.

Our faculty, are working professionals crafting many of the outstanding Films and TV shows being produced today. We offer a small campus dedicated to accelerated, experiential learning for the creation of Film, HDTV and New-Media content. We will demystify the production process, helping you realize your expectations and launch your career.

Small Classes

Our workshops and production units utilize small-group dynamics under the supervision of professional experts. FIRST, you will receive a broad overview of the production processes. Then you’ll focus on the specialty of YOUR choice. This is best achieved within a carefully mentored environment.

Faculty of Professional Filmmakers

A little known fact outside the filmmaking world is that Toronto has one of the best crew talent pools available anywhere in the world. TPI’s faculty has been recruited from the best of that talent pool and we have selected those who are most comfortable sharing their knowledge and expertise with you. These individuals will be moving back and forth from their studios and sets to our classrooms, labs and studios.

State-Of-The-Art Facilities

To prepare you for the new world of HDTV and Digital Cinema you will only be working with HD video formats. For basic instruction we use the newest HDV cameras such as the revolutionary Sony Z1U, and equivalent models from Panasonic, Canon and JVC, complemented by industry standard Power Mac workstations with Final Cut Pro software and the latest Avid edit-workstations. We use industry standard 16 & 35 mm motion picture film cameras supplied by major camera rental companies. For your thesis or major projects, our industry partners will provide you with a choice of professional Super-16mm film or HD video cameras, or even 35mm Arriflex or Panavision motion picture cameras if your project requires it.
